Cindy Jerrell is a mixed media artist that continually experiments with different forms of art to communicate her inner visions. After graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors in Photographic Design, she worked as a graphic artist for Flagpole Magazine and freelanced book, CD, and magazine covers, and all the while created fine art. Along the way, she twice won a Georgia Council for the Arts Individual Artist Grant for mixed media work.
She takes inspiration from music, reading, and nature as well as from the talented artist and musician friends that make Athens, Georgia a magical place. Jerrell experiments with photography, paint, wood, and digital collage – delighting us for years with guilded theaters housing poetic characters.
In “Visions” (digital, 10″ x 13.125″, 2010), Jerrell shows us the internal landscape where visions and ideas and dreams are born. The little ones will have to take care of the lady, because it is hard for her to see within and without at the same time. But that’s where the clarity ends. Are the little rabbits assisting her, or are they leading her to her doom? Is there a good one and a bad one? This unknown quality of “Visions” reminds us that you can’t tell evil from good just by first glance, you have to watch for clues.
As her first loves are nature and animals, she is currently delighted to be a zookeeper at Bear Hollow Zoo in Athens, which provides homes for orphaned or injured animals from Georgia’s native wildlife.
